The days are getting shorter and nights are a little cooler, signaling the end of summer, and the beginning of back-to-school shopping. As vendors prepare for a busy fall season, MainStar America LLC is armed and ready with a wide selection of pens, pencils, notepads, and other supplies. The company has also added a number of new items for fall, which are in line with the latest industry trends, and are sure to be hot sellers for vendors who add them to their booths.
“My parents started this business in South America,” manager Rocco Botta points out. “They then established a hub in Miami, FL, where they made enough contacts to generate a high volume of sales. It turned out to be the perfect location.” Sales were strong enough to allow for the company to move to a 30,000 square foot warehouse in 2004, and inventory grew to fill that space. As specialists in writing instruments and office supplies, Botta mentions that the company does extremely well with its packing tape. Keeping up with another back-to-school trend, however, MainStar America has also introduced a line of simple canvas shoes similar to those popularized by TOMS, which are extremely popular among junior high and high school students, and wholesale for $19.99 a pair. An Eye for Details
“One special thing about us is our packaging,” says Botta. “Our Dolphin brand stationary and supplies come in bilingual packaging, so we appeal to both English and Spanish speaking customers.” Vendors reap the benefit of this feature, because it allows them to reach a broader audience, especially in areas where a larger number of flea market shoppers speak Spanish. Vendors also benefit from the low wholesale price points of MainStar’s merchandise, which is as low as $0.29 per piece to around $1, with 80 percent of its products priced below the dollar mark. Volume discounts are available for bulk orders, Botta reveals, and there is a $300 minimum order. As an importer and exporter dedicated to customer service, MainStar emphasizes one point, which is its relationship with suppliers. “We’re very close with our suppliers,” Botta says. “Because of this, we get the most competitive prices to pass on to our customers, and are able to maintain a reliable standard for high quality products.”
