Happy new year! I know we are all happy that 2020 is finally over, but this does not mean we can let our guard down. COVID-19 cases are still on the rise and talks of another shutdown are still going around, so flea market vendors need to put their best foot forward this year and keep business booming.
American Merchandiser’s January issue continues the theme of surviving the COVID-19 surge, with tons of helpful tips, suppliers with ready-to-ship products, and new and trending products all there to help sellers continue to thrive during these troubling times. According to experts, retail relief is in sight. The last six months of 2020 were spent trying to recover from the flea market shutdowns earlier in the year, and it has been a very slow recovery. The holiday shopping season did cause a spike in sales for sellers everywhere, but this year, economists anticipate a gradual but noticeable recovery fueled by a strong housing market, a surge in corporate profits and the successful roll out of a vaccine, according to Tack’nTogs.
The new Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19 has promise of helping to speed up the recovery even more, with the first shots of the vaccine being given out in mid December of 2020. While the first dose of the vaccine was was administered in New York, people across the nation began receiving it shortly after. The vaccinations started after the F.D.A.’s emergency authorization of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on December 11th. Soon after, trucks and cargo planes packed with the first of nearly three million doses of coronavirus vaccine had fanned out across the country. First-injections are expected to be given to high-risk healthcare workers and residents of nursing homes, but the vast majority of Americans are not expected to be able to receive the vaccine until the spring or later this year.
Let us all go into this new year with our heads held high and ready to succeed. Happy new year and happy selling!
