Some consumers are able to get creative with their holiday gifting and can turn a few items into an exciting arrangement, and others need a little help on that front. As a seller, you need to be prepared for all types of consumers so you can help them find exactly what they’re looking for, and curating gift sets that have a little bit of everything is one of the best places to start.
No matter what types of product you sell, any brand can create thoughtful gift sets, and American Merchandiser has some tips to help get you started:
1. Utilize Useful Containers
Instead of just throwing some products together in a plain old basket or wrapping, place the gift items in a fashionable container that the customer can use even after they open the present. Part of what encourages consumers to make a gift set purchase is if the person they are buying the products for can use every part in the set, so a nice container can help to score you a sale.
Some good container ideas for gift sets include decorative baskets, reusable shopping bags, plates or dinnerware, and plant pots. Brands can also use themed holiday containers, such as a pumpkin for Halloween products, a sleigh for Christmas products, or a giant egg for Easter products.
2. Pick a Common Theme
Since the holidays are approaching, sellers will want to create themed gift sets that go with Thanksgiving, Diwali, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or Hanukkah. Add in products that either have matching holiday colors or uses, such as ornaments or candles. If you sell toys, you can create gift sets for little boys and girls by adding in some products that would be a good fit for each of them, nestled inside of a holiday toy bin.
3. Insert Matching Products
Even though brands can put just about whatever they want into a gift set, it’s best if the products match each other. It’s even better when the products match the holiday theme and each other. For example, if you sell bath and body products, you can create a set with all matching scents. Or maybe if you sell spices or other cooking ingredients, you can create a set with the right items to make a special cooked dish.
4. Be Sure to Include All Age Groups
Including all age groups with each of your gift baskets can really help to score a sale, even if you don’t have products for little kids or adults. Create sections around your booth for the gift sets so they can be separated by age group and then consumers won’t have to sift through piles of baskets that aren’t quite what they’re looking for.
Products such as jewelry, electronics, apparel, and bath and body are easy to separate into age groups. If you sell more neutral products, make use of decorations such as bows, container colors, or scents that can be perfect for one specific age group. Then all you need to do is plop a sign on the table saying just who the baskets are for, and let the shopping commence.
5. Don’t Forget the Filling
No gift set is complete without decorative filling at the bottom of the container. Whether you choose cardboard strips, fake colored grass, or even cotton, the filling always helps to prop the items up to make it look pretty and more full. The customers also need to see what’s inside of each gift set, so by propping up the items on filler, they can easily see what each set holds.
The holidays are all about giving, and gift sets help to make them just a little more exciting. As always, don’t forget to be creative and add your own holiday spirit into each gift set.
