Trade show season is quickly approaching, and with the economy opening back up more, there are many different events coming up in 2022 that flea market and swap meet vendors can attend. Popular trade shows such as Surf Expo, Atlanta Market, Impressions Expo, and the Philadelphia Souvenir & Resort Expo have events lined up next year.
The trade show industry has been slowly making a comeback since the pandemic put a hold on so many in-person events. Whether you have attended online only shows or maybe just a few in-person trade events a year, it may take a while to get back into the swing of things. American Merchandiser has put together some refresher tips for vendors so they can make the most out of their experiences in 2022:
1. Establish a Budget
Seeing all of those new products can get exciting, so it is super important to establish a budget before you attend any trade show. You can even go a step further and set a budget for each exhibitor you want to visit, so this way you can take a look at as many wholesalers as you like.
2. Look at the List of Exhibitors Beforehand
In order to establish your budget properly, most trade shows will have a list of all or most of the attending exhibitors on their website. This allows buyers to see what they sell beforehand and find out if they are worth paying a visit. This also gives flea market and swap meet sellers time to check out company reviews before doing business with them.
3. Check Out Pre-Show Promotions
Oftentimes, trade shows will offer exhibitors the option to share a discount code on the exhibitor’s website. This is a great way for buyers to get into the show and register at a reduced rate, so while you are looking to see which companies you want to visit at the event, check for any pre-show promotions.
4. Make Appointments with Exhibitors
Most trade shows will allow buyers to schedule appointments with exhibitors so there is enough time to talk about products, purchase orders, and any other questions you may have for the brand. Especially at highly sought-after shows, lines can form quickly at booths, which makes it difficult to have a one-on-one conversation with a sales associate while other buyers are trying to get their attention. Scheduling appointments allows buyers to bypass the lines and wait times and make a proper introduction.
5. Research Upcoming Trends
In order to make the most out of your buying experience, attendees should research any upcoming trends in the areas you sell. For example, if you sell apparel, research fashion shows and trends in the coming months so you know what you buy will be a hit at your flea market or swap meet booth. This can also help buyers to find new popular products that certain exhibitors may be selling at the event.
6. Continue Connecting After the Trade Show
Trade events are great places to make long-lasting business relationships, so always remember to take a business card and keep the exhibitor’s information on hand for future orders or questions about new products. Connect with the brand on social media, subscribe to any email lists they may have, and keep the conversation going long after the show has ended.
