Angie, LA, is home to a new business called Across the Tracks Flea Market and Consignment. Although the market is occupying space that hosted other markets throughout the years, Across the Tracks owner Belinda Loftin has updated the space and added a few twists on buying and selling. The market presently has about 30 booths and it also offers vendors the unique option to rent shelf space. Booth rental is $50 a month and shelf rental is $10 a month. Both booth and shelf vendors pay an additional 10 percent commission on items sold.
Loftin has already installed new windows and added two booths, and she plans to add more spaces to the year-round market as well as to host “Community Days.” “I’m going to have occasional days where people can rent outdoor spaces for the day or for the weekend. People who don’t want to rent full time can come in and rent an outdoor space when the weather is nice. A lot of vendors travel and sell at multiple festivals and events,” Loftin points out.
The market sells both new and used merchandise including antiques, appliances, furniture, household items, jewelry, baby items and more. To help shoppers who may be strapped for cash, Loftin offers a layaway program that requires a non-refundable 20 percent down payment and weekly payments, although business has been great. “Since we opened up in January, this past Saturday was our best day. Business just keeps getting better,” Loftin comments.
Across the Tracks Flea Market and Consignment is located at 65092 Louisiana Highway 438 in Angie, LA, near Louisiana Highway 21. “We are just a little community and the highway runs parallel to the railroad tracks. We tell people, in order to get to our market, turn on the main highway and go just across the tracks. That’s how we came up with the name,” Loftin shares. Across the Tracks Flea Market and Consignment is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information or to rent a space, contact Belinda Loftin at 985-986-9827 or by email at acrossthetracksfleamarket@gmail.com.
