UltraViolet Distributing, launched in 2007, wholesales more than 2,000 items, including everything ultraviolet, blacklight reactive and photoluminescent. Blacklights and blacklight reactive merchandise are popular among flea market shoppers of all ages, from baby boomers who remember them from their youth to pre-teens who are experiencing the fun for the first time, says Troy Grow, president of the company.
Blacklight tapestries, reminiscent of the 1960s, are hot sellers, he asserts. “They are made of cloth instead of paper, and they have a bit of a hippy feel.” Around 25 styles—both retro and contemporary—are available, including the ever-popular Peace, Love and Buddha designs. The silk-screened prints feature fluorescent ink on fabric with sewn edges that will not rip, and measure 23 inches by 28 inches. Each is packaged in a clear bag with a triangular hang hole, and a bright zinc spinner rack is free with the purchase of 48 pieces.
Blacklight posters, flocked in soft velvet, are available in dozens of styles, as well, and measure 23 inches by 35 inches. Best sellers include Sunset Bay Ship, Angel, Bob Marley and Alice in Wonderland.
If vendors are going to sell blacklight posters, they are going to want to have the blacklight as well, Grow points out. “It’s really important for vendors to display the products under blacklight because, when people see the way the colors pop, they are more inclined to buy the products.” UltraViolet Distributing carries multiple sizes and styles of blacklights, including an inexpensive keychain type, models 48 inches long and everything in between.
Another big seller at flea markets is the company’s invisible ink pen with mini keychain blacklight set, a novelty item for kids. Simple and fun, users write an invisible message on a suitable surface, then shine the blacklight on it to see it glow. These are a great price point, at $2.99 each, and get people to shop other items at a vendor’s booth, Grow notes.
More and more people are hosting blacklight parties at schools, and for birthdays and other occasions, Grow continues. “People are buying cosmetics, decorations, tableware and other blacklight reactive party accessories for all kinds of events.” UltraViolet Distributing carries a broad line of these types of products, such as party cups, shot glasses and plates. The company also carries blacklight reactive beaded curtains, stick-on pieces, crayons, pens, chalk, paints, bubbles, candles, roping and more.
UltraViolet Distributing is dedicated to customer service, and has trained specialists who can answer questions, locate items, confirm availability and place an order, all on the same phone call. Orders are processed and shipped the same or next business day. While the minimum opening order is generally $200, Grow says he will accept smaller initial orders from vendors interested in getting into this product line.
