On May 4 Fleamasters’ Music Hall will serve as center stage for tiny pets and their owners in the 2nd Best Dressed Chihuahua Contest. The event starts at 1:30 p.m. with registration beginning at 11 a.m. at Fleamasters flea market in Ft. Myers, FL. The Chihuahua does not need to be American Kennel Club (AKC) registered or even a purebred to enter but the dog must look like a Chihuahua to win.
“The event serves a dual purpose: to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, and one of our favorite spunky little dogs. Dress up and enter your pint-sized pup,” invites Linda Steele, Fleamasters’ marketing director. “Whether fancy, wild, funky, or a mix of styles, this contest is your Chihuahua’s chance to strut their stuff. It’s a guaranteed good time for spectators and contestants.”
There will also be a special performance by the Calendar Girls dance team, which is comprised of 30 divas over 50 who dance to raise money for charity. All proceeds from the event will support the Southeastern Guide Dogs and Paws for Patriots program
Registration is $10 per dog. Each entry will receive a goodie bag and a t-shirt for the dog owner. Costumes will be judged on originality, creativity and overall appearance. Dog owners can add to the fun by also dressing up. The grand champion, first, second and third place winners will take home rosette ribbons and prize baskets loaded with dog treats and gift certificates for market stores.
