Sara Shorees found inspiration for her company’s new shower and bath scrub while watching Rachael Ray on TV. “I was watching her show and she had a doctor on who was doing tests on shower scrubs and found a lot of bacteria, yeast, and fungus on people’s scrubs,” Shorees, CEO of Bish Bish, remembers. “His suggestion was to replace the scrubs every three weeks. I did that for a while, then I had an idea and crocheted something I could machine wash and bleach. I used that scrub for three years, then I decided to patent it and offer it for sale.”
The result is the Bish Bish exfoliating showed and bath scrub. Handmade from polyethylene food-grade plastic, the Bish Bish is machine washable and bleachable. A single Bish Bish will last for four years, without ever molding, smelling, or becoming infested with bacteria. “People who buy them come back and say they love them,” Shorees says. “Some people feel it and expect it to be rough because it’s made out of plastic. But it’s less rough than an exfoliating brush.”
Introduced in April 2013, the Bish Bish has only been available so far directly from Shorees, who has been selling them at fairs in her region. Incredibly, even though she’s “doing it the old-fashioned way,” Shorees has hand-sold more than 8,000 Bish Bish scrubs. Now with manufacturing in place, the Bish Bish is ready to go national.
