A veteran fashion jewelry supplier is reaching out to flea market and swap meet vendors with a new product line as well as value pricing on its hallmark chains-by-the-inch product. Olympia Gold has been in the business since 1989, but longevity has not hindered innovation. “We started our own line of Katie Ko Designs,” says marketing director Terry Gibson. We debuted at the 2010 Duty Free Show in Orlando, and it had a pretty good opening.”
Olympia Gold has put a lot of effort into creating costume and fashion jewelry that stands out for its durability and longevity. “Our products are 24 karat electroplated with a perma-sealer called PermaGold,” Gibson says. “It’s an acrylic eco-coating that protects the jewelry.” The company also offers a true lifetime guarantee. “Our quality is definitely a plus, and we stand by our product,” he adds.
Gibson is also enthusiastic about the profitability of Olympia Gold’s chains-by-the-inch merchandise in a swap meet setting. “We have flea market clients all over, and our chain by the inch sells especially well at flea markets.” That translates into excellent profits, with margins up to 500 percent. “If a chain costs 10 cents an inch, vendors can mark it up to 50 or 60 cents an inch,” he says.

The versatility of the product is a key selling point. “The beauty of the chain by the inch is that there is so much you can use it for,” he explains, mentioning handbag handles, waistbands or belts, trimming around a hat, and highlighting around a boot. “Customers can do whatever they want, with chain cut to any size,” Gibson says.
And he knows what he is talking about, since Olympia has been selling to flea market vendors for many years. “We have a history and a name in the flea market business,” Gibson says. For more information, contact Olympia Gold through its Web site or by calling (800) 395-7774.
