Shopping great deals all day at the Flamingo Island Flea Market has its rewards: getting to sit down and enjoy the fresh, locally made food from The Orange Bear Restaurant. Located inside the market, the restaurant is owned and operated by Shane Barton, who bought the four-unit space near gate 1, formerly known as JT’s Pizzeria.
Barton has been around Flamingo Island most of his life since his parents own and operate Affordable Import Furnishings, a business located in the market’s section known as Red 54. Growing up around the market, Barton’s first job was at JT’s Pizzeria, now the location of his own restaurant.
Owner, head chef and general manager, Barton uses his vast knowledge of Flamingo Island to not only continue a successful business, but also help out fellow shoppers navigate the market. Barton frequently directs shoppers looking for a particular business within the market. “I wanted to see what I could do for myself,” Barton said, “what I could do on my own, that was the big draw.” The restaurant operates during all market hours, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday 8am-4pm year round.
Offering a full breakfast menu including biscuits & gravy and bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches, to a full line of fresh baked goods, pizza, burgers and hand made sandwiches, The Orange Bear Restaurant has something to satisfy any palate.
