The South Side Flea Market was launched Memorial Day in Bethlehem, Pa., by the Steel Ice Center, an ice skating rink, in the center’s 300-car parking lot. According to rink hockey director Rik McKinnon, who is also in charge of special promotions, the flea market started slow but has been growing. There have also been a couple notices in the local press.
“The turnout’s been very small,” says McKinnon, “but each week it shows more interest and gets a little more momentum going. This week we are expecting five to ten vendors.”
McKinnon emphasized the market’s location as a strength. “It’s in the middle of Bethlehem, and there are no other flea markets close to town,” he says. “It’s accessible, right off Route 378.”
The market runs every Saturday through Labor Day, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost for vendors is $10. For more information, contact McKinnon at (610) 625-4774, ext. 225.
