Swap-O-Rama’s founder, Rex Meadows, came to Chicago from California in 1969 with the idea to open a flea market in the Midwest. It was not long before he opened their first location at the Double Drive Inn Theater, and Swap-O-Rama Flea Market and Farmer’s Market was born. Between 1973 and 1986, the market opened a variety of locations across the Midwest in Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin, as well as standing locations at Allstate Arena and Maywood Park Racetrack.
As Swap-O-Rama continues to thrive and move forward, they have some best practice measures for everyone’s safety at their Melrose Park location. Both guests and vendors are required to wear facial coverings and maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from anyone at all times.
