Make a donation to the National Flea Market Association (NFMA) member market vendors at Cooks Flea Market in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Many vendors are in desperate need as many of them have lost all of their merchandise in the recent fire. The NFMA will match funds donated up to $5,000, but you’re welcome to contribute more! Every little bit helps, so please donate what you can.
The fire broke out at Cooks Flea Market on June 5th in one of the buildings. Had it not been for the quick thinking of the employees and a response time of less than five minutes by the Winston-Salem Fire Department, they could have lost everything, according to a press release on their website. The market finally reopened on June 29th and 30th after much time spent cleaning up the damage.
“Words cannot adequately express the deep appreciation and gratitude we have for every first responder in Winston-Salem,” the market managers said. “Your desire to help others is a testament to your commitment to this community and an inspiration to us all. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.”
The fire destroyed about 40 percent of the building at the market, but the overall damage was minimalized by the fire department. Though the building is now restored, the incident has caused some to lose hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in merchandise. Some vendors at the market only sell at Cooks, so let’s rally together and help them recover some of the lost cost.
