Blanket sales heat up when fall is in full swing. Flea market shoppers and fair-goers often turn to booths selling toasty items when the temperature drops, and Leather Links Inc. keeps those vendors readily stocked. Since its creation in 2000, Leather Links has provided vendors and independent businesses with wallets, work shoes, utility gloves, luggage and blankets. “My husband was in business for years, and when the company started we explored importing goods from China, Korea and India,” says Dolly Harsh, president. “We started with cell phone accessories and blankets, and later added on luggage and work gloves.” The company now operates through its warehouse in Lorton, VA as well as its website.
“What becomes a best seller depends on the season,” Harsh explains. “Luggage does extremely well in the summer, then blankets start to move more as early as August. What sells well at any time of year are usually the work shoes and gloves.” At the moment, Leather Links is still making a high number of sales in its blanket department. Available in a variety of looks, some blankets feature photorealistic images of animals while others are printed in cozy floral patterns. They can be ordered in either single or double-ply with no minimum order. “We do try to place orders by the pallet if they are being shipped out of state, just to keep shipping costs as low as possible,” Harsh offers. “But we do have customers who simply come and pick items up themselves. Our warehouse also serves as our showroom.” Blankets wholesale starting at $18 and can retail for $34 and up. What makes them stand out from the competition, according to Harsh, is their quality, and in a hands-on flea market atmosphere, the tactile appeal of a blanket is usually the determining factor for a customer.
