Vendors know that a great display can help sell nearly any product, even items that sell themselves, but there are times when laying inventory out on a table isn’t enough. Having cases or other secure displays is one of the keys to mastering flea market sales, especially when it comes to jewelry, knives and collectibles. While there is always the option to purchase displays from a distributor or store, everyday household fixtures can also become attractive displays with a little creative effort.
Suitcases to Make Merchandise Move
A suitcase can become a conversation piece when modified correctly. To make a display, saw the legs off of an old chair or table, then glue them to one side of the suitcase.
When the glue has dried, nail the legs as added reinforcement.
Once the legs are secured, open the suitcase and remove any dividers inside of it. Line the interior with an attractive fabric as a backdrop for your merchandise.
You can also attach hooks to the inside of the top half of the suitcase for jewelry, breakable ornaments or other items that can be hung.
On the bottom half, you can lay a sheet of plexiglass over the bottom half to protect the products housed inside, fastening it to the suitcase with a hinge or leaving it loose if you prefer.
In general, any boxy object can be turned into a table display by adding legs, a liner and a protective glass cover. Consider an old drawer, a cigar box or oversized picture frame and let your merchandise influence the direction you take.
Reinventing the Picture Frame
With a picture frame and a sheet of wire mesh or chicken wire cut to fit, you can create a compelling wall display. If your picture frame has a removable back, take it off of the frame and remove the glass, as well, leaving only the sides of the frame in place.
Cut a rectangle of wire mesh to fit the opening in the picture frame and fix it to the back using a utility stapler.
You can then prop up or hang the frame on any wall and use it to show off earrings or other hanging merchandise.
Pleasing Pallets
Another thought, if you have access to a pallet, is to remove most of the boards from one side and hang it on a wall. The interior support boards function as shelves for any type of product. Leave the boards as natural wood, or modify them with flashy lacquer paint.
With patience, creativity and a stocked toolbox, vendors can make the most of any booth. The most inventive displays will attract the most attention, which can translate into improved sales.
