The summer months are some of the most fun for flea markets and swap meets because of all the pop-up events going on, aside from the fall harvest festivals, of course. For all you vendors traveling to keep up with all the hype, stay cool and hydrated! It’s easy to get caught in the rush and forget to take care of yourself.
Fleas and swap meets aren’t the only buzz this summer, and in fact The Merchandiser has been keeping track of the antiques and collectibles market, and it’s looking good. The online market is especially doing well, having grown by 7.2% to reach revenue of $2 billion in 2018, and according to IBIS World industry research, it’s supposed to keep a steady growth.
Antiques and vintage items make up a huge part of flea markets and swap meets. In fact, most fleas have a specific policy where vendors are only allowed to sell items that are a minimum number of years old. Makes sense, because how can it be considered an antique if it’s brand new?
Despite the market booming for selling antiques, you can’t just pick out any old junk from your house and sell it for gold. Just like the fashion market, the trends and colors are constantly changing, so you have to be a dedicated vintage seller to keep up with trends. But don’t worry, our “Antique Industry Trend Breakdown” article featured in this issue will give you the rundown on all things vintage and collectibles.
Whatever you’re selling, make sure to check out our flea market and swap meet listings so you can catch any events happening near you. This brings me to my product pick of the month that’s perfect for marketing your business name at different pop-up events throughout the rest of the summer and fall seasons. The best part is it’s a great Go Green initiative.
