A new monthly flea market is helping to fund the local horse club in Camp Springs, Ky. The Northern Kentucky Saddle Club Flea Market was created to benefit the not-for-profit club, says secretary and flea market coordinator Beverly Spoonamore. “It’s doing very well. We’re really the only flea market in a large area,” Spoonamore says, noting that the most recent sessions have attracted 20 to 25 vendors. “This is the first year, and it takes time to grow. I have room for ten vendors on the inside, and we have a huge field that could accommodate 150 vendors,” she adds.
Outside rentals are $20 per day, and vendors can use as much space as they like. Inside, in tighter quarters, the cost is $15 for one table, and $20 for two. The club serves breakfast and lunch as an added revenue stream. “In the winter we make homemade bean soup with ham,” says Spoonamore.
The market has gotten some press coverage and is advertising on Craigslist. Next year, Spoonamore is hoping to add a car show and more entertainment. The Northern Kentucky Saddle Club Flea Market is held one Saturday per month, scheduled around horse shows. For more information, call Beverly Spoonamore at (859) 801-3892 or e-mail kaykarma@msn.com.
