The only thing bigger than the LA Flea Market’s grand opening at Dodger Stadium July 17 — with its 18 food trucks, three live bands, kiddie attractions, and 400 vendors — might be the media hoopla that organizer Phillip Dane drummed up for the event. As the market’s Web site understates, “We’ve been in the news a lot lately.”
That trend continued on the day after the event, with press reports appearing on KABC, the local ABC news affiliate; the Huffington Post; Southern California Public Radio; and China’s government-run news agency, among the bigger players. But bloggers checked in too, of course.
Not all the reviews were positive — some critics snarked about parking snafus in the early hours, for example, while others quibbled with the product mix. On the other hand, the hordes of shoppers were not complaining. Well, maybe about the heat, but not about the market!
