Larry O’Connell, who runs a thrift shop in Elk River, Minn., is opening a weekly flea market on the grounds of his thrift shop. The Friendly Flea Market will run Saturdays and Sundays on East Highway 10, starting with the first weekend in August. in this community about 30 miles outside St. Cloud. According to O’Connell, location is his inspiration in opening the market.
“It’s a great site,” he says. “There are no other flea markets nearby, and I’ve got 30 to 40 thousands cars driving by every day.” The market is situated on busy Highway 10 in Elk River.
O’Connell has spaces for 75 to 100 vendors, and he hopes to hold a grand opening with food and a live band. He is also offering vendors a Web page on his site — currently under construction. The space rents for $20 per day. He is also offering consignment sales for vendors who cannot attend in person.
