Home textile wholesaler Duke Imports has added three separate lines of high-quality Sherpa blankets to their extensive list of products. The new blankets feature bright, clear and crisp graphics and are packaged in a vinyl zipper suitcase style bag. “These blankets are made with 100% EF-Velboa micro polyester,” says Marty Kirkendall, marketing director for Duke Imports. “They have a very soft feel to them, almost like a real mink fur. I can run my hand across one, and it doesn’t catch on the little things that guys have on their hands, such as cracks or cuts or rough spots, that do catch on materials like satin.”
The first Sherpa line is the Animals, or Wildlife, product line, which have printed wildlife scenes on them, such as images of dolphins, deer, and American bald eagles, as well as more specific graphics like a wolf howling at the moon, or a male lion with a cub. “These blankets are actually two ply, but they are called Sherpa because typically customers would put the design side of the blanket up,” Kirkendall notes. “On the back side, they are covered with full covering of a material like lamb’s wool or sheep’s wool.”
Skins Line
The other two lines are skins including zebra, leopard, fox, cheetah, and giraffe. The difference between the two lines of skins is that one is a filled blanket, while the other is not. “This means it has an extra polyester filling inside of the blanket, which is fused to the top and bottom side of the blanket,” Kirkendall adds. “The regular skins blankets are also two blankets that are sewn together, but you can separate the top side from the bottom side very easily. If you tried that with the filled ones, it will start to give some resistance, and that’s the filling. It has a quite a bit thicker feel to it.”
The Sherpa blankets are machine washable and dryer safe. Usually sold in nine-piece cases, the wholesale price of the blankets ranges from $25 to $30 per piece, and Kirkendall notes that they often sell for between $50 to $80 at most markets, a markup of keystone or more.
