The 27th Annual Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction, sponsored by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, will be held in New York City September 22nd. Located at West 44th Street and Shubert Alley, the event will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. One of the most anticipated days of the year on Broadway, this is the event where Broadway fans and stars come together to celebrate the upcoming Broadway season. Free and open to the public, the festive outdoor market takes place in the heart of the theatre district.
Last year, 56 tables showcased merchandise from dozens of on- and off-Broadway shows and other theatrical organizations. Many items were created especially for the event. “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” sold bracelets from the Kevlar cables used in the show, while “Billy Elliot” created homemade holiday ornaments. Whether it is a show, union, guild, merchandise company or other theatre-related group, sellers find their own volunteers, create and/or collect merchandise to sell, design their table layout and look, and help spread the word that they will be there. According to event organizers, there are treasures to be found in every price range.
Shoppers come to snag hot one-of-a-kind items and to bid on the silent auction every 30 minutes. Dozens of celebrities will be found chatting with fans at the Celebrity Autograph Table and Photo Booth. The market caps off with a live auction, featuring one-of-a-kind experiences and keepsakes. Specific items for sale at the flea market, details about the grand auction lots and stars who will appear at the Celebrity Autograph Table will be announced in September.
