A former outlet mall in Jeffersonville, Ohio, is being updated under new ownership as a combined flea market mall and retail shopping center. Jeffersonville Crossing was purchased for $1.8 million in June by a partnership of two local businesspeople, Larry Roberts of R+L Carriers and Tom Coughlin of Coughlin Automotive Group, according to a news report in the Columbus Dispatch. The two have hired Bill Brown as manager of the location.
The new flea market will have both outdoor and indoor selling space. According to Jeffersonville Crossing secretary Leslie Brown, “The investors have bought eight acres of wooded property next to this complex, and that is where the outdoor market is.”
The center — which according to the Associated Press has struggled to attract retailers — seeks new sellers to come on board and is offering a look at the facility next week. “We’re doing an open house Sept. 20 to 25,” says Leslie Brown. “It is for flea market and storefront sellers both. There will be free food and drink and personal tours.”
She says that the new flea market has a no-money-down policy, with the first month’s rent free, for flea market vendors. “For flea market folks inside, the cost right now is $35 a weekend, plus the first month is free. It’s somewhat of a reduced rate.”
The new owners are improving the facility, including upgrades to the parking lot. Within a couple months the flea market component should be up and running.
“We’re aiming to be the bargain center of Ohio, with a mix of discount stores and a large, upscale flea market,” Bill Brown told the Dispatch.
Traditional retail stores are also a part of the shopping venue, available for lease at $2.50 per square foot in sizes from 1,100 square feet up to 30,000 square feet. For example, a medical uniform store is opening a second retail location there Sept. 18.
