The Empire State Flea Market, in Port Chester, NY, will remain open through December 31, 2013. This is a result of an agreement struck between The Empire State Flea Market Association and AVR Realty, the company from which the market rents its Boston Post Road space. As part of the agreement, the Flea Market Association will withdraw petitions filed on behalf of several vendors asking Rye Town Justice Anthony Provenzano to order the market stay open until the end of the year. The weekend market employs about 300 vendors who work in 100 booths, which sell everything from clothes to jewelry to comic books. The venue will continue to operate on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays into December, and will be open every day during the week leading up to Christmas. Afterward, booth owners will have until December 31 to remove their merchandise and close their booths for good. Vendors were first informed of the planned closure in August in a meeting with AVR. The Empire State Flea Market has been a weekend spot for bargain shoppers in the tri-state area for 37 years.
