“One of the most important things to remember as a vendor is that you’re in an active selling environment, so be active,” says Jeff Dwight, publisher of the Merchandiser Group Magazines and FleaMarketZone.com. At this year’s ASD Las Vegas show, Dwight presents targeted tactics for flea market and swap meet vendors seeking to take their businesses to the next level.
The planned session will help flea market vendors, experienced and otherwise, maximize their business by touching on a number of retail subjects including merchandising, promotion and business practices. Consideration will also be given to the processes of buying and selling merchandise, and to working with wholesalers. “One of the things we’re going to talk about regarding selecting a market is understanding the customer demographic and, hence, what is selling,” Dwight explains. “We’ll demystify how to find and use tools that are available to help vendors analyze the economic conditions of an area where they may be interested in setting up a booth.”
Tips From an Industry Leader
Dwight advises vendors to carefully scout the market beforehand. By paying attention to what is and isn’t selling, vendors are better equipped and more likely to be successful in entering different territory. He plans to also discuss retail salesmanship, how to be strategic with booth design and product offerings. “We’ll have some real life examples from vendors who have given us feedback about what they have found to work well in their own experiences,” Dwight discloses. “We’ve also organized a top five list of things to think about that we feel will be useful.”
The session, “Maximize Your Flea Market and Swap Meet Business,” will be held on Tuesday, August 14 at 10:30 a.m. in room N246 of the North Hall. More information about this and other presentations, in addition to details about the show, is available on the show website, www.asdonline.com/LV.
