A science-fiction-theme market, the S.P.A.C.E. Flea Market, is looking for vendors after its launch May 14. The market centers on a spaceship-like building called Starship Pegasus, which features a dome-shaped Star-Trek-style former restaurant. Market organizers are hoping vendors will dress in costume or otherwise relate to the theme, although that is not a requirement. The name stands for “Starship Pegasus Associates Community Enterprises.”
According to marketing manager Andrew Voyer, “The vendors are encouraged to design their booths like rocketships or spaceships or shuttlecrafts and to dress up like aliens — but no masks, for safety and security reasons.”
The spaceship structure itself is not being used for vendors at the present. “The starship building needs to have work done on it before vendors can be in there,” says Voyer. It stands on the corner of I-35 and Highway 34 in Italy, Texas.
The market is currently open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm, but those hours may be expanded, according to Voyer. Farmers and produce sellers are also encouraged to attend. There is an occasional musician and snacks. Parking and admission is free. Opening day booths were $10 per day, according to the contract on the site. “Booth spaces are very competitive,” says Voyer.
