Mayhem Boards and Scooters celebrates the skateboards of the 1970s and the 1980s, and creates colorful new versions of the original model. The company’s signature decks are 22 inches long, just like the first boards made in Southern California decades ago, and have polyurethane wheels, says Ike Solano, sales manager of the company. Skateboards are available in a variety of colors including hot pink, bright blue, flaming red, sunny yellow and deep purple, allowing flea market vendors to create eye-catching presentations for skaters of all levels.
The Rasta board, a black deck that has two red wheels and two green wheels along with yellow trucks, is one of the company’s best sellers, Solano notes. The glow in the dark contrast board with black wheels, and the celestial blue board with purple wheels, also do very well, he says.
The 22-inch boards wholesale for $22.50 apiece and Mayhem Boards and Scooters also carries 27.5-inch boards, which wholesale for $27.50. Wholesale pricing is based on order quantity. Suggested retail is $65 for the smaller boards and $75 for the larger boards. The company also sells black, blue and red scooters, which retail for $139.99 each.
“We offer very good quality for a very good price, with a great profit margin,” Solano points out. As an additional perk, the brand is well known among its target market. “We’ve created a word-of-mouth advertising campaign through social media because we are selling to younger consumers. They’re very tech savvy and social media savvy, so it allows us to easily promote our brand.” Minimum opening order is one dozen boards and, after that, vendors can buy in any quantity. Mayhem Boards and Scooters is developing point of purchase displays, adds Solano, and they should be available by summer. Each display will hold 12 boards.
