Back in 1973 Melton “Cowboy” Terrell and his wife Janie opened up the Mountain Top Flea Market with a handful of vendors, a hot dog stand, and a whole lot of Southern hospitality. Over the years their little market grew and grew, attracting shoppers and country flea market seekers from all 50 states, to eventually reach an amazing 1.65 million visitors back in 1995. Not bad for a little ‘ole country flea!
Nowadays, the market is still open every Sunday, rain or shine, running from 5am to whenever the last of the satisfied crowd decides to leave. Breakfast and Lunch are both available for the hungrier shoppers, and vendors of all stripes are welcome to come and set up a spot.
Both inside and outside spaces are available; for reservations vendors may call the office on Tuesdays from 10-2, Wednesdays 8am-2pm and Saturdays at the Gate House from 3pm to 8pm. Some spaces include electricity – please inquire at the time of your reservation if you’d like one of these spaces.
Known far and wide for their acres of bargains, including everything from classic antiques to the freshest locally grown produce, Mountain Top has that indefinable and irresistible quality known as Southern Charm. Shoppers still come from across the nation to capture a bit of that old fashioned atmosphere, and vendors come back again and again, too.
