Spotlight 88 Flea Market, at 802 Mercer Road in Beaver Falls, PA, is celebrating 17 years supporting vendors and consumers at this location. The market offers a wide range of merchandise including antiques, collectibles, tools, canopies, crafts, housewares and produce, of which the hottest sellers are collectibles, food, housewares and tools, according to market owner and manager, Whitey Boehm. Boehm says the market is “doing well” and attracts about 1,000 shoppers and 40 to 50 vendors per day. He attributes his 17 years of success to regular advertising, low priced vendor rental, a steady stream of events and just plain “perseverance.”
Boehm promotes the market through ads in directories, flyers, newspapers and radio, and the market has a website, which he says doesn’t get much traffic. “We get an older crowd and they don’t use the Internet much.” For vendors, the price is right. “It’s only $6 a day to set up and it’s local for them,” Boehm points out. “It’s better than driving to far away markets because they aren’t exhausted at the end of the day.” Spaces, which measure 24 feet by 18 feet, are available on a monthly basis for $50. Not only are vendor spaces extra large but the 21-acre property easily lends itself to big events, which are held throughout the market’s open season.
Spotlight 88 Flea Market holds 5 car cruise/swap meets, and the final one for this year will be held Sunday, September 2. Shoppers will find a variety of classic cars, trucks, motorcycles, antique tractors, jeeps, great prices on parts at the swap meet and music by D.J. Ryder. As always, admission to the market is free. “The biggest thing we do is our Oktoberfest with a carnival and bands,” Boehm states. Oktoberfest will be held October 6-7. The market also hosts Christmas in July and a “frightful and delightful” Halloween Party, which will be held October 27-28. “We’ve tried different events throughout the years to attract different groups of people,” Boehm adds. Christmas tree sales begin November 23. Spotlight 88 is open Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., from mid-April through December. For more information, call Whitey at 724-538-8721.
