Summit Hats, launched in 1970, sells hundreds of western hats, hat accessories and belts for men, women and children. Deeply rooted in historic Houston, TX, Summit Hats provides vendors with quality-constructed headgear in the most popular classic as well as fashion styles and colors. “Bling continues to be big on everything, including belts, boots and hats,” says Ken Tsai, owner of the company. To help vendors meet consumer demand for hats with brilliant and eye catching decorations, Summit Hats continually introduces new styles, such as its pink toyo straw pinch front hat adorned with a rhinestone cross. The company will be launching two new product lines over the next few months.
Summit Patch Collection
Set for a mid to late November launch, with pre-ordering available now, is the firm’s Summit Patch Collection. The selection of around 20 patches, such as a cross and fleur-de-lis, can be attached via a hook and loop fastener to the Summit Patch Collection hats. “The patches can be placed anywhere on the hat, such as the crown or underside of the brim,” Tsai notes. “These are going to be really hot holiday items because they let people personalize their hat to their individual style.” Retail will be around $10 to $15, depending on the marketplace.
The Bound Edge™
Following the Summit Patch Collection introduction will be company’s most exciting product launch to date. In early 2014, Summit Hats will introduce The Bound Edge ™, a revolutionary brim edge that will allow customers to change the look of their cowboy hats to match their mood or apparel. “On the edge of the hat, there is a loop of trim called a bound edge,” Tsai explains. “Until now, there were only two methods to attach the edge to the hat. The preferred method is by sewing and the other is by gluing, both of which are permanent. We have developed a proprietary method to attach the edge without sewing or gluing, and it is completely removable.” The Bound Edge, which can be attached to any hat on the market, will be available in a huge selection of styles, materials and colors. In addition to all types of rhinestones, from acrylic to high-end glass, there will be novelty edges such as one with a nylon mesh around it so people can insert glow sticks. “This will be a big seller at fairs, rodeos and other night time events,” Tsai assures. In addition, each edge in the collection will come with a matching hatband to complete the look. “In the not too distant future, we will be introducing more new products,” he reveals.
Buying details
Summit Hats’ minimum order is $50. Whether with U.S. made or imported merchandise, the company’s 20,000 square feet warehouse is well stocked, and products generally ship the same day they are ordered. “If vendors order early in the week, we want them to receive products for the busy weekend sales period,” Tsai adds.
