A husband and wife team have launched the Mission Flea Market on London Ave. in Vancouver. “My wife came up with the idea, back in December. We finally found a building in January, and we’ve been working on it ever since,” says market owner Neil Kernahan. “We’re pulling in good number of people for a Saturday and Sunday,” although the weather can put a damper on attendance, he reports. The indoor market has attracted up to 50 vendors through its seventh weekend in operation.

Sarah MacIsaac, of Crazy Cupcakes, has been selling at the market since it started. “I like it a lot — we’ve been growing in popularity, too. It’s community based, small, and vendor-friendly.”
Tables at the market are available for $14 to $16 per day, and full booth rentals are in the $30 to $40 range. However, Karnahan says he is flexible and wants to support new vendors as he builds his clientele. The market has advertised on Craigslist and also plans to expand with Friday hours and a new Web site. “The more days we get, the better,” says Karnahan, who also has a sign business. “We hope it will be a thrift store, antique house, and flea market, a family-oriented business, where people can shop and save money.” For more information, call (604) 820-5074 or e-mail 2waysign@telus.net.
