What Haynes Williams and Frank Barber started as The Market Place Flea Market back in 1996 has now been reimagined as The Big “O“ Flea Market. “I can’t believe that 20 years later I would be involved in it again,” Williams laughs. The new ownership team includes not only Williams, but his wife, Susan, daughter & son-in-law Celeste & Ron Ripple, and long-time friends David & Lisa Feltenberger.
“We are very excited about the potential this business offers to become a safe, family-oriented, destination shopping experience that will grow to be a great asset for the community of Okeechobee County,” says David Feltenberger. “One of our goals is to promote vendors that cater to all customers and offer something for everyone.”
Along with a new name, the market has added many new vendors with quality items for sale, as well as a selection of fine concession stands and full service restaurants serving food of all kinds and flavors. A fresh seafood market joins two produce stands, plus new vendors offering antiques, artwork, jewelry, and even musical instruments. As an added bonus, an on-site car wash and car window tinting service are now available, too. The Big “O” Flea Market also plans to offer auctions, car shows, festivals and live entertainment in the months ahead.
“With so many diverse people bringing in merchandise, you never know what kind of treasure you will find at the flea market,” notes Ron Ripple. “That’s what makes it such an exciting and fun shopping experience that’s different from customary shopping.”
The Big “O” Flea Market is located at 3600 Highway 441 South, across from the Publix Shopping Center, and is open from 8am-3pm every Friday through Sunday. The produce stand is open 7 days a week. Spaces are available for daily, weekend or monthly rentals at great rates. Admission and parking are free.
