The Jamaica Avenue Outdoor Market opened in December, offering shoppers in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, NY a new shopping destination for all kinds of new and used merchandise. “We started the flea market on an open space on a busy street on Jamaica Avenue, right in the middle of a retail district, where there was previously an outdoor market,” says John Sanji, owner and manager of the flea market. “The location is really important. There are about 100 to 150 retail stores on this street, so it definitely is a shopping area.”
The flea market currently has 18 full-time sellers, with room for up to a total of 50 vendors at a cost of $300 per month for a 10 by 10 space. Vendors can only rent by the month, and the flea market is open seven days a week, from 9:30 am to 7 pm. For Sanji, the great location means that buyers and sellers are going to enjoy the experience that they have at the Jamaica Avenue Outdoor Market. “Right now, I’m just looking for some good vendors that have excellent merchandise that will attract the customers, and so far, people have really liked it,” he adds.
The Jamaica Avenue Outdoor Market is located at 163-18 Jamaica Avenue in Queens (the intersection of Jamaica Ave. and 165th Street). For more information, call Sanji at 516-523-1099.
