Fleamasters Fleamarket plans to host their sixth annual Watermelon Festival to celebrate the local crop of watermelons with watermelon-themed activities, music and plenty of old-fashioned, family friendly entertainment in Ft. Myers, FL from May 27 – 29, 2016. This year the market plans a few extra surprises as the market itself is celebrating their 30th year in business.
Everyone is invited to come and celebrate the season, enjoying all the delights the market has to offer. “We’re challenging folks to come out for the watermelon contests,” invites Linda Steele, marketing director. “There will be many chances to win.” One of the highlights of the festival is the seed-spitting contests, divided into three age groups: 10 and under, 11-16, 16 and over. Prizes are awarded for both seed spitting and speed watermelon eating, and as a special note, anyone who manages to break the seed-spitting world record of 68-feet, nine and a half inches, will win $500 cash.
This event is a perfect opportunity for vendors new to the market business to set up a booth and get selling. 12′ x 10′ covered booths are available, and artists, crafters and photographers are also encouraged to come and share their artwork.
This year, as in past years, the event has held a popular Watermelon Salsa Dance Party in the Music Hall with live music in the market’s fun-filled music venue. Children are welcome at the kid’s craft area, and will be entertained with free face painting, balloon animals and a very tall stilt walker.
Fleamasters Fleamarket is open for shopping, food and fun 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. See the Watermelon Festival schedule and get more information on their website, www.fleamall.com, calling 239-334-7001, or by finding and liking Fleamasters Fleamarket on Facebook.
