Wolff’s Flea Markets, which has been operating two markets just outside the city of Chicago, IL since 1991, announces several upcoming events at both its Rosemont and Palatine locations. Three members of the Negro League Baseball Legends, now in their nineties, will be at the organization’s Rosemont site September 22nd. “They set up a table with their managers, sign autographs, and display and sell some of their memorabilia,” explains Sharon Wolff, creative media and merchandise consultant. “Mainly, they talk to the shoppers. They are very friendly gentlemen and we enjoy their visit each year.”
Rosemont is the larger of the two venues and accommodates 725 vendors. It runs from April through the end of October, and is open Sundays, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
While the Rosemont season ends in the fall, the Palatine location remains open year round on Saturdays and Sundays, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. With space for around 300 vendors, it is the site of several family fun events, beginning with a Halloween Trick or Treat Bash October 26th. Children in costume are admitted free all day. In addition to trick or treating, there will be a giant pumpkin carving event, Zumba with Jenn Voss, a parade and best costume contests.
“Although the market stays open year round, we have a grand ‘reopening’ celebration,” Wolff notes, “because many of our customers and outdoor vendors return to the Palatine location after Rosemont closes.” The festivities, to be held November 3rd, will include raffles, face painting by Ashe and electronics recycling.
“In November, we do a food drive for the Palatine Food Pantry,” Wolff adds. “We also have a raffle for grocery store gift cards.” In December, Wolff’s flea also hosts a hat and glove drive for the needy children of Palatine, and the market will be collecting new socks for adults and children throughout the entire month. On December 7th, the market will host a Recycled Button Holiday Craft. “We recruit my son’s high school friends to help the children. They can make ornaments, jewelry and little Christmas trees. It is simple, old fashioned stuff, and the kids love it.”
