Stretching from five miles north of Addison, MI down to Gadsden, AL, the 127 Corridor Sale, also known as the “World’s Longest Yard Sale” celebrates its 25th year of longevity from the 2nd through the 5th of August. This year, the sale is 690 miles long and spans six states. Attendees are warned that traffic will be heavy all along State Routes 58 and 127, along which the Sale is situated, as the sale draws thousands of people each year.
The Long and Short of It
Started in 1987 by the former Fentress County Executive Mike Walker, the 127 Corridor Sale is headquartered at the Fentress County Chamber of Commerce in Jamestown, TN. The event is open to vendors of every variety and was originally founded in celebration of those hometown treasures one might find when taking the road less traveled. By “pulling people off of the interstates and back into the heart of rural, scenic America,” the website states, “the even encourages businesses and residents to participate by having yard sales, sidewalk sales and special promotions for a continuous stretch from one end of the sale to the other.” The sale is very much a shining moment for the small towns it infiltrates, and any front lawn is fair game for a showcase. There is no admission fee for attendance. Those interested in visiting all or any portion of the “World’s Longest Yard Sale” can visit the event’s website or Facebook page for more information about lodging and travel.
